On the Ranch
Frank looked up to see Tansy approaching.
"I'm so sorry to interupt honey, but I'm sure Maddie has dinner ready."
"That's ok, sweetheart. I didn't realize how much time had passed." Frank ran his hand over the freshly turned earth. "I'll see you soon Mom." He whispered.
Standing he brushed his pants off and reaching for Tansy's hand began the walk back to the car.
Tansy held onto her husbands hand tightly as they walked. She watched the sun slowly descending on the plains and was awed by the sky.
"He takes my breath away." Tansy said aloud.
"Frank looked at the sky. "Yes, He takes mine away too."
They both stopped and watched the sunset hand in hand.
Finally Frank began walking again, Tansy right beside him. "Frank? What are you thinking?"
With a shrug Frank tried to put into words what was on his mind. "I buried my mother today, and my heart grieves. But at the same time I am full of joy for her."
Tansy nodded. "Today she is in the presence of the Lord, and that is something to rejoice about, but we still miss her."
"Yes." Frank said. Looking at his wife he gave her hand a squeeze. "Have I told you that I love you lately?"
"This morning." Tansy said with a smile.
"Well I'm telling you again, I love you Tansy Keller, and I thank God that He gave you to me."
"I love you too Frank. You are a precious gift that God has given me, and I plan to cherish you for however long the Lord gives us."
Frank brushed a gentle kiss on Tansy lips. "For as long as the Lord gives us." He repeated.

Steven raised his head and everything began to spin. He knew he had been hit by a bullet. His vision was blurred and he could faintly make out someone standing nearby watching, but he couldn't quite make out the face. That face, it was so familiar. He lay his head back and felt so weakened, but he still tried to gather enough strength to raise his head and clear his vision so he could see the person in the distance. The sun had been shining so brightly and now the sky had taken on a grayish blue haze. The man watched as Steven struggled to raise his head and again fell back onto the ground. A bright light appeared to surround Steven and he looked up to see a figure clothed in pure white and he whispered, "You've come to take me home.....haven't you?"
The figure approached Steven and held out a hand, "Son, it's time to come home. The Father awaits you. Your time on earth is done."
Steven felt as light as a feather as he reached to grab the hand. He found himself standing in the brightest light and it was so bright that he had to shield his eyes. He was in the presence of the Savior. He could hear the angels singing praises to the King. He was resting in the arms of the Christ.
The figure below laughed an evil laugh, "I have done it master. One by one they will be destroyed. The time will come when all those at the cave will be delivered to you."

Miss Maude went in search of Linda and when she couldn't find her she asked Shannon, "Do you know where I can find more material? I wanted to make Amy something new to wear. The dear child has been sewing for others and I thought she'd like something new herself."
"I think there are a few bolts left in the supply room. If you would like, I will show you where we keep all the supplies. It is really sweet of you to want to do that for Amy. I'm afraid she's been really withdrawn since her brother left to join the GF army. He was the only family she had left," Amy told her.
Miss Maude smiled, "I want to be a nicer person and that would make me happy to do this for her. I think I've been irritating Linda by meddling in her kitchen so I was trying to find another way to help. Do you think your husband would let me help him with the garden?" she asked.
Shannon gave her a hug, "I think Kerri would be more than happy to have your help. Alexis has been trying her hand at gardening and I would imagine she would love a break. Let me show you the supply room."
Shannon helped Miss Maude find the boxes labeled material and sewing supplies. Miss Maude carefully looked through the box and found just the piece of material she wanted then picked out thread and needles. She clapped her hands, "This is just perfect."
Shannon picked up the inventory list to check for anything that they might need from town. She would try to get Steven on the cell phone to pick up a few items they were getting low on. She would have to go outside to get a better signal so she asked Miss Maude, "Did you find everything you need? I need to try to reach Steven before he heads back this way so if you're ready, we need to head back to the main room."
"Yes, dear. I found all I will need. Thank you for your help," Miss Maude said with a smile.
Linda met them as they entered the main room and she put her hands on hips, "Miss Maude, I thought you were going to help me in the kitchen this afternoon. We need to take inventory of our food supply and get something started for dinner."
Miss Maude started laughing, "Linda, I think you will be just fine without my help. Two women in a kitchen don't always work out, ya know?"
Linda smiled back at her, "Yes, I know, but I want you to feel welcome to help out any time. We are family and share in the duties. I am not the boss of the kitchen, just took over from the beginning and they kind of left it to me to figure out the meals."
"And you're doing a fine job of it, too. No need to improve on a good thing. Dear, you just keep up the good work and I will find other things to occupy my time," Miss Maude said as she patted Linda's hand.
Shannon walked outside to place the call to Steven. Bud hollered down at her, "Tell that "old coot" he needs to get back here and help me with this barn. He can't get out of work that easily."
"I'll be sure and tell him that, if he will ever answer his phone. How long do you think he's been gone? Shannon asked.
Bud rubbed his chin, "Oh, I reckon he's been gone about 2 hours give or take a minute."
Shannon furrowed her brow at Bud, "You're a lot of help. I've tried twice and he doesn't answer. I wonder what's taking so long. Maybe he's still trying to find Miss Maude's cat."
"That's one mission I hope he doesn't succeed because I don't really care for cats. I would say something ugly about cats, but you never know who's listening," Bud said winking at Shannon.
"Now Bud, you must be nice. Miss Maude has had that cat for a long time and it's her companion. Still no answer and that is totally unlike Steven," Shannon sighed.
"He'll probably be rolling in here at any moment. Not that he cares that I've been slaving away all day on this barn while he runs all over the county."
"Bud, you are a regular grump today. Maybe you need to finish your work and be on time for Bible study. I think you need a refresher course on how to be kind one to another," laughed Shannon.
Bud made a face at her, "Shucks, Miss Shannon, you sound just like my wife. Nag, nag, nag."
"Now I know you had better show up for Bible study or I'll sick the law on you. I'm sure Steven would just love to handcuff you to make sure you made it on time."
"Well, Missy, you have sure gotten pushy......women," Bud said with a groan.
Shannon laughed and waved at him as she returned inside. Hopefully Steven would be back soon.

“Sonar Conn, Sir, the sub launched on the tanker”
Joe lifted his head quickly “What”
“We were tracking both contacts, 1000 yards after the tanker crossed the “T” of the sub I heard two explosions, 5 seconds apart.”
“Give me last bearing and range to sub” Joe asked
“Bearing 250 just under 20 miles”
“Copy” Why would a US Sub attack a tanker, was the tanker flying the wrong flag? Joe thought,
“Keep me updated if sub stays in the area and if it surfaces.”
“Aye sir”
Joe went back to the big chart with Josh plotting their scheduled course for the next three day.
“I think we better give the shoreline a wider berth, we don’t need some cowboy finding us and we have to run and hide. I would rather stay hidden up front.”
“I agree if we run the Tango 6 track, it should keep us well clear of all traffic.” Josh pointed out on the chart.
‘BANG’ the sound of a large metal piece hitting the deck sent shivers up each crewmembers neck. Red lights flashed on and a alarm sounded. The five Naval Seal laying in the forward berthing compartment froze in place for fear the sub was sinking.
“Conn to Engine room”
“Stand by sir, we are checking”
“Conn aye”
True sub sailors just went about the business knowing that if it was worse someone would push the emergency ballast that would send the sub flying to the surface. That is if they found the problem in time.
“Engine room to Conn, the fresh water evaporator busted a line. No treat to sub but fresh water will be limited until repaired. Repair time 12 hours.”
“Copy, good job guys” Joe eased his thoughts a bit. “Josh get the word out to all that no fresh water till the repairs are complete”
“Aye sir”
“Sir, Contact Alpha 1 the sub has turned and has a heading towards us. Speed increased to 15 knots”
“Helm right turn new course 080, speed 1/3” Joe said quickly but firmly
“Do you think they heard the pipe bust?” Josh asked as he plotted a new line on the chart. “Recommend 077 to place our tail to him”
“Make it so. They must have and now being a good skipper he wants to know what went bump in the night”
“Weapon Officer to the Conn” Joe said over the radio
Joe looked down at the chart, he needed a hiding place. “Josh find me a mouse hole to drop down in. Remember the Wales is 60 feet longer and 15 foot wider then the Samuel was.”
“Copy”
Mark stepped into the Conning room looked around and found Joe at the chart. “Sir you want to see me”
Looking up Joe waved Mark over, “We might have a fight, seems our former America sub might have heard the line bust and is heading this way, we were 19 miles out 2 minutes ago and we are looking for a mouse hole. If things get hairy I want you to trust my men like I trust you.”
“Understand sir”
“I have not had a change to look at our total weapon package on board, give me a quick run down to what I haveto work with”
“Standard MK’s forward and aft, Cruise missiles in the VLT’s and something that we Brit’s like to keep tucked away in our lockers for the right occasion, we carry four floating Bobby’s.”
Joe gave Mark a questionable look
“Sir we Brit’s never did like being chased, so our boys back home came up with the floating bobby. It is a floating mine we can release from the stern. We set the depth and it stay there until something gets too close or in 24 hours it drops like a rock to the bottom of the sea.”
“Hmm never herd of them” Joe replied
“No one has sir, the American are great at missiles and have moved away from a close in fighting. We always felt that was good but once inside the circle what do you have.”
“Are they Detectable?”
“Ask the crew of the Russian sub 745. Rumor has it, they kept sticking their nose in our business back in the 80’s and well let’s just say the 745 will be remembers as one that never pulled back into port.”
“OK good, you will have to walk me though that target solution it if we head down that road, but our mission calls for us to avoid all contacts if possible”
“Understand, I will have my department get ready for whatever we do. Remember though, the Bobby’s will use your aft tubes based on how many you want to deploy.”
“Understood, thanks Mark”
Once Mark left, Joe went back to the chart and Josh
“Anything”
“No sir, just a few small valleys but no holes or large cliffs. There is a tall ridge over here” Josh pointed at an area on the chart “but I think the skipper will figure that one out along before he gets here.”
“Did you hear Mark? Something as simple as floating mines and we and the US over looked it”
“Sometimes a fist is better then a bat” Josh replied
“I guess” Joe stated rubbing his head
“Conn to sonar, any other noise out there beside us and them”
“Sir, I have a school of fish, portside about 2300 yards, a whale and calf, portside 5300 yards out but that is it”
“Very well”
“Range to Alpha 1”
“8.2 miles and closing, same speed”
“Rodger”
Joe thought; his time was running out. No holes to hide in and only one whale, they would still stick out like a week old dead freezer.

“On station sir”
“Good sound General Quarters”
Bong, Bong, Bong sounded throughout the sub. “General Quarters all hand man your GQ stations.”
Tim watched as men both young and old moved quickly about his vessel. Soon the last watertight hatch was closed and each man was accounted for at his station.
“All stations report manned and ready sir”
“Never well” Tim was pleased, very pleased he had been hard on them but in the end they would thank him for it.
“Control, open VLT 1 & 2 outer door please”
“Opening doors 1 & 2 on the Vertical Launch Tubes sir” A Second Class Petty Officer replied as he touched the computer screen.
Within seconds the red colored boxes on the screen labeled doors turned from red to green.
“Sir outside doors 1 & 2 are opened and locked.”
“Very well”
“Captain to weapons, confirm missiles 1 & 2 please”
“W-100 Tomahawks sir,”
“Very well, stand by to turn launch key on missile 1 to pre-launch”
“Standing by”
“Turn key now” Captain Barlow said as he turned his key from dead to pre-launch”
”Key is turned sir, I have a green light”
“My key is turned as well Weapons, I have a green light. Stand by to turn launch key on missile 2 please”
Again the procedure was the same until both Tomahawk Cruise missiles topped with 100 megaton warhead were just a turn key away from being launched.
“Launch missile 1” Tim Barlow spoke
And with a shutter and blast of air, NO#1 missile was pushed out of the tube up 20 feet to the surface and another 50 feet to where the solid fuel booster engine started with a flash and within 4 seconds NO#1 was gone. Missile NO#2 was 18 seconds behind, both traveling 30 feet over the waves and across the sea. At 19:45, having a range of 600 miles and a speed of 550 mph, the target set in the memory banks clicked down telling the 18 foot flying tube of death it had just less than 60 minutes to fly.

Ben opened the door to the library and saw the smiling faces of the men and women as they sat and chatted. “Good evening all, I see we have a few more faces tonight, I pray that one night soon we will have to request to move our meeting up on the flight deck for some many people.”
Everyone laughed then Ben opened with a prayer of forgiveness and asked that the Lord watched over each person.
Jack was up on the signal bridge looking out over the ice and snow, the wind had died down and if not for the cold it would have made for a peaceful evening, he thought.
Ben was reading out of the book of James when he looked up and saw, a young man fudging in his chair and kept looking t the clock on the wall. “Must have the next watch maybe Ben thought as he continued reading.
At 18:35, the young man stood and raised his hand. “Sir, I have the mid-watch can we start the invitation now, I would like to come forward before I have to leave.”
Ben smiled, “Yes we can son, and does anyone else feel our Lord calling them to come forward?”
Two young girls and an older man stood up and walked forward to join the younger man. They all joined hands and Ben started to pray.
Heavenly Father, these five that stand before you tonight come and ask for forgiveness and ask that you wash away the sin of their past, present and to come. Lord hear their voices and know their hearts so they may one day sat at your feet and sing and shout Holy, Holy, Holy. Be with them Lord and give them the courage to speak your name and to show others that only you is eternal life found. In your sweet name Jesus I pray amen.
At 18:42, they all hugged then the whole group came forward to shake and hug.
“General Quarters General Quarters all hand man you Battle Stations” The loud speaker barked
Each member gave one last hug then ran to their assigned location.
“General Quarter plus 1, inbound cruise missiles, brace for shock in 20 seconds”
Ben sat on the desk, quickly in his mind he figured up the problem. If they just spotted the missiles that meant they started their climb to a set altitude where they would turn and race to strike each ever target they were programmed to hit. The Carrier he stood on was the most likely.
Jack hearing the alarm started heading for the bridge when he saw the CIWS on five different ships start to fire. Stopping, he watched as four no five missiles left their launch pads and raced up into the sky all in the same direction.
The inbound missile did reach their point where they turn up away from the sea and started their climb to 10,000 feet. The first one made it then leveled out and raced towards the fleet. The second one was at 8,000 feet when the tail fin was hit by a trungsten bullet fired from a CIWS. It missile stopped it raise and leveled out. Both now headed for the fleet.
At 18:41 Ben got down on his knees and thanked Jesus for allow him the time he had to plant any seeds and hoped that the seeds he planted would grow for you him.
Everyone laughed then Ben opened with a prayer of forgiveness and asked that the Lord watched over each person.

In a flash, all those standing outside the skin of the ships turn to powder. Had Jack or any other sailor outside had a mind quick enough to see what happen they might have seen a flash of light then felt the warmth replace the cold winter air.
But in a flash, over one hundred heavy metal ships melted as they were forced down below the surface of the sea. Where once ice and water flowed, now a ten mile fireball filled the empty space.
Sailors down in the lower decks well below the sea level felt something strange if maybe for a second before the hot metal walls and decks above them liquid fide and they too felt the heat and death within two heartbeats.
In the twinkle of an eye, 68 of over 2100 men and women of the Bright Star Fleet now found themselves standing before the Great I AM.

Billion gallons of water was displaced from the ten mile circle. Like dropping a large rock into a puddle, the force sent the water that had not evaporated outward in big waves. Fifty miles in each direction water pushed up on shore carrying with it fish and other sea creatures both dead and alive.
The heat wave pushed out across the ice and snow melting it within minutes causing massive mud slides. Villagers living within twenty miles of the blast were lucky, they died within minutes or and hour. Those living out to fifty miles would feel the sickness and death come soon.
The old church buildings made of mud and straw quickly packed with anyone who could still walk, each one praying to the Virgin Mary to help them. “St Peter, St Christopher come; heal us” they cried out. But no help came; the only help was death for some.
They were the lucky ones who listened to the Missionaries who spoke and taught of Jesus. They knew who to call for and for some when they took their last breath; they too in a blink of an eye found them selfs standing at the feet of Jesus.
For Jack and all the rest, pain and torture would now direct their lives. Their worst nightmares played out in their minds each second of the day, as beast and other unspeakable things tore at their flesh.
The heat of the blast stayed with them, never dropping a degree but burning the flesh from the bones over and over again. All because they thought Jesus was just a man or he was a myth. Thirty seconds out of their earthly lives they could have called on the true King of Kings. The one, who loved them and pained knowing that each one of them didn’t turn away from sin, didn’t call his name.
“Jesus, Jesus the sweetest name I know, he is waiting to hear from you” Thirty second to change your life. Thirty seconds to call on him and ask for forgiveness, ask him to be your Lord and Savior. Thirty seconds or a life of nightmares and terror for ever and ever. Never ending, never ceasing.
